April 23, 2009Senator Chris Dodd (D-CT) released the following statement today in celebration of Earth Day:
“On Earth Day, we should remember that this planet is a gift that we have an obligation to preserve for future generations. Americans must take responsibility, both as individuals and as a society, to make a positive impact on our environment. We can each begin with the small steps of reducing our own energy consumption at home and at work.
“But we must commit to taking the big steps as well. I strongly support efforts to establish an economy-wide cap and trade system to reduce our country’s carbon emissions and slow the process of climate change before it is irreversible. As part of this effort, I have begun holding a series of hearings on how to improve our public transportation system in Connecticut and across the country. A large investment in public transit will be a critical part of the solution to global climate change and I am committed to working with President Obama to ensure it becomes a central component of America’s climate change policy.”
