Highlighting the importance of providing health care services to newborns and their families, Dodd toured the Neonatal Unit at Stamford Hospital. Following his tour, Dodd met with parents, physicians, and care givers and announce his legislative efforts to increase funding for newborn screening. Dodd was joined on his visit by Pam and Tom Sweeney and their son Jonathan, a March of Dimes Ambassador Family, of Newtown, and State Senator David Cappiello (R-Danbury). In May, Dodd introduced legislation with Senator Mike DeWine (R-OH) to provide improved resources for newborn screening initiatives nationwide. The bill would provide funds to educate parents and health care professionals on the importance of newborn screening, and to states to develop programs for follow-up care.
